Finds Manager

Salary £33500, up to £35600 for the right candidate

Applicants should have a proven track record in producing high quality finds catalogues and reports in a major artefactual specialism for assessments, grey literature and publication, in a commercial environment. Specialists in prehistoric and/or Roman pottery would be preferred although other specialisms would be considered. We are looking to recruit a postholder who has previously undertaken a managerial role in finds, or is immediately suitable for promotion to such a role, and who understands the variety and complexity of the work that is required. In addition to their own specialism, the successful candidate will work closely with the Post-excavation Manager and Senior Project Officers to ensure that the programme for finds and environmental work is completed to a high standard and within budgetary and programme targets. They should be able to demonstrate considerable experience in the overall production and editing of finds and environmental reports up to publication level. The postholder will have management responsibility for a number of staff within the Post-excavation team. Some involvement in outreach activities may be required as part of their specialist role.

Position requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a finds specialist in the UK and/or Ireland with evidence of publication
  • Proven experience in finds management
  • A degree in archaeology or related discipline
  • A working knowledge of health and safety issues for both warehouse and office work
  • Excellent computer literacy skills (MS Office packages)
  • A valid UK driving licence is desirable but own transport is not
  • Membership of CIfA at full MIfA level (for which subs will be reimbursed)


Find Officer

£25900, up to £30300 depending on experience

Applicants should have a proven track record in producing high quality finds catalogues and reports in a major artefactual specialism for assessments, grey literature and publication, in a commercial environment. Specialists in prehistoric and/or Roman pottery would be preferred although other specialisms would be considered. In addition to the production of specialist reports, the post-holder will prepare and edit externally produced finds reports and catalogues for assessment and publication. We would also like them to supply specialist expertise and advice in outreach activities, as well as undertaking work for external clients if required.

Position requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience as a finds specialist in the UK and/or Ireland
  • A degree in archaeology or related discipline
  • A working knowledge of health and safety issues for both warehouse and office work
  • Excellent computer literacy skills (MS Office packages)
  • A valid UK driving licence is desirable but own transport is not
  • Membership of CIfA at full MIfA level (for which subs will be reimbursed)
  • CIfA membership would be preferred (for which subs will be reimbursed), non-members will be supported in their application
