The second phase of a two stage evaluation was carried out on land to the north-west of Bury St Edmunds adjacent to the southern side of the A1101. A total of 156 trenches were excavated across the central and southern portions of the site in order to ascertain the presence, extent and nature of any surviving archaeological horizons and to determine the extent of horizons already identified during Phase 1.

The trenching identified a single Bronze Age cremation, a large hollow that produced a single heavily abraded Roman coin, a rudimentary boundary system containing Roman pottery, a large circular quarry pit that contained Roman and Medieval pottery sherds, a concentration of at least three medieval features that contained a good sized assemblage of pottery dated from the mid-12th to the 14th century and a large post-medieval quarry pit.
