Ryan joined Suffolk Archaeology CIC in January 2018, having spent many years excavating, surveying, and illustrating for several archaeological firms around the country. He originally studied computer-generated modelling and GIS while at the University of York.
Ryan now manages the visual output for the Cotswold Archaeology Suffolk office across their many graphic platforms; from digital and printed publications, internal documentation, photography, through to the requirements for outreach events. He therefore liaises with project officers, the post-excavation team, and external printers as necessary to ensure a high-quality visual language meets client requirements.
His formative years in archaeology sandwiched a brief period attending the French Compagnonnage: training and working in oak-frame carpentry around Normandy and Paris. Utilising experience he gained in hand-draughtsmanship, layout and geometry, Ryan enjoys employing contemporary design from these other industries into his heritage work. He is also a keen analogue photographer in his spare time.
