Simon graduated from Edge Hill College of Higher Education with a degree in History with Art in 1998. He spent the following ten years working in agriculture and transport before joining Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service Field Team as a Project Assistant in 2008.

Simon spent the following eight years gaining experience working on, and later leading, numerous sites across Suffolk dating from the Neolithic through to the post-medieval periods, initially as a project assistant and subsequently a supervisor, before achieving the post of Project Officer early in 2016. In addition to his duties as a Project Officer, Simon also carries out and processes site surveys producing digital plans for both small and large-scale projects.
