An archaeological evaluation, involving both desktop survey and trial-trenching, was carried out in advance of a small housing development.

The desktop survey showed that the area of the site was common until about 1760, since which time it has been arable land owned by the church through the Town Estate, until modem development.

Two features, a pit and a ditch, were recorded in the trial-trench, both of Roman date. While not appearing to represent concentrated archaeological deposits within the bounds of the proposed development, the presence of these features did suggest that at least the Roman component of the known archaeological activity to the north and south of the site (WMH 004 & WMH 005) was actually continuous throughout the intervening area.
