Summary

Monitoring and recording of an unknown obstacle that was proving to be a hazard to craft navigating the River Stour was carried out when downstream sluices were opened, allowing the water levels in the vicinity of the obstacle to fall.

The obstacle was thought to be the remains of a staunch constructed in the 18th or 19th century as an aid to maintaining water levels in the river between the water mills at nearby Flatford and Dedham.
